Full Member Benefits

Mission

  • To convert people into gardeners
  • To increase the consumption of seed and bedding plants grown from seed
  • To ensure future generations of gardeners

Benefits

  • Support for your industry – home garden seed and bedding plants from seed.
  • Annual Membership Meeting – to be aware of key industry issues.
  • Membership email newsletter – containing meeting dates and information.
  • Synergism between NGB and AAS – for example, AAS Summer Meeting.
  • AAS Summer Meeting – Opportunity to view flower and vegetable trials. Network with seed suppliers and friendly competitors in an informal environment.
  • Learn about unwritten industry standards such as germination rates or guaranteed usable seedlings.
  • Learn about each seed company that is a host.
  • www.ngb.org – The Bureau website
  • As a member your company logo, mission statement and direct link to your website are featured in the Membership Directory.
  • The California Pack trials have become complicated. A benefit for all companies is the complete list of California Pack trial companies and dates they will be open for visitors. This assists any person planning a business trip.

Media Recognition

  • Each January your company name is sent to 7,500 media and recommended as a resource.
  • Each July we contact you asking for new varieties, which are featured in the September issue of Today’s Garden. This results in your new varieties being promoted to the media and consumer.
  • For a small fee ($300.00) a member can rent the NGB media list of newspapers, magazines, coop extension agents, etc. Names/addresses now available on CD. Use this list to introduce new products to the media and consumers.

Surveys that benefit member companies

  • There are several trade surveys designed to provide overall market information for companies. The floriculture industry is devoid of accurate sales data. These trade surveys offer a snapshot of the market where no accurate sales data is available.
  • Garden Writers’ Consumer Trend Surveys – as a member you have access to GWAF surveys at a reduced price.

To reach children – to ensure a future generation of gardeners

The Bureau has accepted the long-term objective of reaching children. These are the current programs.

  • "Matching Funds" for a GrowLab® – A member company and NGB each donate $300 to place a GrowLab® and materials into a school.
  • 'Year of Melon' education kit sent free to teachers upon request.
  • Donation to Western Growers Charitable Foundation to establish a garden-based education program at a school in CA or AZ.

Support for Industry Programs

  • Donations to Plant A Row for the Hungry
  • Donations to America In Bloom – Founding Member, Silver level.
